OX Locker - Lockers
Lockers, Limited Slips, Differentials
and the sport  of Offroading.

An Overview of Standard Carriers, Positraction & Limited Slips,
Locking Differentials, Spools and Mini-Spools

With the Ox Locker you have the benefits of both an open differential and a spool at the pull of a lever.  The Ox Locker is a cable driven locking differential that uses a single air-craft quality cable to engage the locker.  When activated, both axle shafts are locked together into the equivalent of a spool providing 100% equal traction to both wheels of that axle with no differential of speed between the wheels of that axle.  When the OX Locker is not activated, the differential operates as an open differential, providing the smooth, predictable handling characteristics for daily driving.

The fact that the OX Locker is only engaged when needed, means it can be installed in BOTH front and rear axles applications.  In addition the front OX locker and rear OX locker would be controlled with individual cables to engage/disengage them independently.  This gives more flexibility and control in situations offroad.

The OX Trax Locker is a simple, well designed unit that uses a four pin design differential which evenly distributes drivetrain stress.

The all mechanical design OX Locker is made by OX USA and are a 100% Made in U.S.A. product.  The lockers are made of 8620 forged and heat treated steel and use a four spider gear design on all OX Lockers.   The forged Steel Ramped Differential Cover is strong enough to take the abuse of offroad without worrying about damage.  A "Back Cut" gear tooth design is used for locking ring and the locking gear.  The cable is made from aerospace quality cabling.

OX Locker Reviews

How the OX Locker works:

The OX Locker is a cable actuated locking differential.  From inside the cab of the vehicle, a lever is used to engage or disengage the locking mechanism.  When the lever pulled, a single air-craft quality cable moves a shift fork that’s housed in the differential cover.  This in turn slides a collar over one of the side gears.  In the locked position the side gear is locked to the differential housing.  This eliminates any differential action and providing a 100% traction lock-up between the axle shafts making it essentially a spool.

Disengaging the OX Locker differential is as simple as sliding the cab mounted lever again, which releases the side gear.  Now the OX Locker differential is in a fully open carrier position.  The OX Locker is a solid, simple cable activated concept with no air hoses or compressors to install, break or leak. Internally there are no air pumps.  With installation there is no electrical wiring harnesses or switches to install.  The Ox Locker is equipped with a heavy duty aircraft-quality cable that's simple, strong and reliable.

Manufacturers description of the OX Locker:

High-Tech aerospace engineering with no castings or stamped steel components. The OX uses a single air-craft quality cable to engage from an open differential to a fully locked unit with a shift of a lever. Super high quality material built for a maximum durability. Less is more, no air lines to leak, no wires to short out.

The new OX Locker™ (Patent Pending) works off the simple mechanism of push/pull. It takes no electricity, no air, and no hassles! The best part is that it locks and unlocks for your driving needs. Unlock for highway driving and tight turns off road. Lock for tough terrain and rock crawling.

Features include:

  • All parts of the OX Locker™ are machined from solid bars and plates of steel.
  • Shifter components are machined from solid steel and aluminum. No castings are in the OX Locker™
  • Comes with a new ¼" solid steel, bullet proof differential cover with a 45° ramp for better approaching clearance and protection of all bottom bolts.
  • No drilling needed on axle housing.
  • Cable is rated for 365,000 cycles.
  • Comes with drain plug for easy oil draining.
  • Engage and disengage at any speed.
  • One year limited warranty (through OX Brands).
  • Available for the Dana 30, 35, 44, 60 and AMC 20 axles.
  • Made in America

OX Locker Hi-Lights

  • Precision Machined Cover
Extra thick billet or forged differential cover. Built to withstand the rigors of offroad. Maintains a stable platform for proper shift fork action. Machined frontal ramp deflects rocks and minimizes damage. No need for extra differential skid plates.
  • Sure Shifting Engagement
Locker engagement is provided by using our super durable manual shifter assembly. Built using billet machined aluminum and steel components. Easy and sure shift action leaves no doubt when you are locked up. This will feed through our custom designed aerospace quality cable assembly. All this adds up to reliability, no leaks, no shorts.
  • Four Pin Internal Design
Utilizes the proven four spider gear internals. Unique four pin design provides the most strength available of any locker available. This is coupled with an outer case made from 8620 gear steel forged and heat treated to make the OX case virtually indestructible. This design will also be found on the "c-clip" Dana 35 unit, making it the only four pin Dana 35 made!
  • Extreme Grip Lock Ring
Recently improved to feature a "back cut" gear tooth design. Taken from Porsche racing technology, this design was a proven solution to high load manual transmission issues. This shift ring is made to find engagement and hold on till you tell it to let go. Case hardened and through hardened to match the quality of the rest of the locker.
