Turing a legend
into an Icon.
Introducing the Icon By TLC Inc.
TLC
Icon
Throughout the history of 4x4's there are only a few that earned the
right to be called legendary. The original FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser
was one of the few to earn this title with character, simplicity and
genuine utility that continued production through three decades from 1958
to 1983. Today there are many who treasure the original FJ40's
and restore them to their original beauty and functionality. Along
with the love for the original Toyota Land Cruisers, came companies who
proudly restore and build varying degrees of custom Land Cruisers for
their customers. Then there are companies who take it to a whole new
level.
TLC Inc. in
Van Nuys California is one of those companies who took their love for the
original FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser and created a whole new animal.
The TLC Icon. In a world of custom 4x4's there are some vehicles
that stand out from the crowd and the TLC Icon does just that. The
Icon takes the best of the classic designs of the Toyota Land Cruiser and
balances it with modern performance to create a hand crafted, custom
designed 4x4 vehicle that retains the best of the legendary FJ40 Land
Cruiser built on proven modern systems and highly desirable components.
The Icon has an impressive driveline, getting it's power from the
venerable GM crate fuel-injected Ram Jet V8. Its
heavy-duty,
New Process, One Ton five-speed transmission and purpose-built Atlas dual-stick
transfer case
apply power are well suited on both the highway, cruising at 2200 RPM @ 70 MPH,
as well as on the trail with a 87:1 crawl
ratio. The Icon uses Dynatrac Dana 60/44 custom-built axle assemblies for
easy maintenance and proven durability, complimented by four-wheel power
disc brakes and ARB Air Lockers. All of the Icon's systems are easily serviced with common parts that are
readily available almost anywhere.
The full list of specification of this vehicle is quite impressive.
It's obvious that a lot of planning and design went into the development
of the TLC Icon. It's also obvious that TLC Inc. knows Land
Cruisers. The Icon is built by hand in California by dedicated
craftsmen in very low volume and availability is limited. If

THE ENVIRONMENT
We built the Icon with the premise that the people who spend the most time in
wild
places have the greatest interest in preserving them.
So the Icon is built with a sense of the environment and recycling responsibly.
The Icon
emits less harmful emissions in a day full of stop and go driving than the
original Land
Cruiser did idling in a parking lot. Its modern drive train design provides more
than triple
the horsepower and double the torque of the original Cruiser while reducing
emissions
and increasing efficiency thanks to its intelligent gearing, modern fuel
injection system,
oxygen sensor circuit and sealed fuel system.
We further reduce environmental impact by recycling an older vehicle instead of
producing
a new one. No CFCs or VOCs are emitted in the production of the Icon. TLC
remains
committed to the development of diesel, bio-diesel and electric drivetrain
designs. We
are actively engaging partners in those industries and intend to expand our
offerings in
the near future.
