Description: PitBull Maddog Mud-Terrain Tire


When the Pit Bull Tire Company designed the PitBull Maddog Mud-Terrain Offroad Tire you could imagine their approach to designing a Mud Tire as an aggressive attack on the mud. When we looked at the tread of the Maddog, the one thing we saw that was a striking feature was the variety of design of the tread lugs. Most Mud Terrain tires on the market have a repeating pattern that may change slightly from lug to lug, however the PitBull Maddog has lugs following lugs that are completely different than the previous lug with a repeating pattern several lugs away. Why? The immediate thought is for the looks but we think its a design approach that is geared towards the dynamics of the mud itself. Our theory is with a changing pattern, the tire tread will tend to move mud in a random, churning manner where each lug does something different to the mud below. The effect would essentially be if one lug design didn't move you, try another design. We like this idea in a mud tire. The effect, according to a few people we have talked to who have these mud tires, is that they excel in sloppy mud. When you look at the highlight features of the Pitbull Maddog, you'll see why. Very large side lugs that have a paddle effect in deep mud. We count 9 unique side lugs that run in opposite directs on either side of the tire, that's 18 different side lugs churning the mud. Running down the middle are large varying center lugs with sharp leading edges, again with a variety of lug patterns. The large center lugs are siped in a variety of directions. This not only helps traction in the mud, but also on the rocks as well as on the street. The lugs are separated by large voids that help to break suction and release the mud. Many "Mud Terrain" tires on the market are lacking this crucial feature and clog quickly. The sidewalls are well protected by large side lugs that also offer traction in mud as well as protect the bulge when air way down. There's also a secondary sidewall lug deep down towards the center of the sidewall that will protect as well as propel when necessary. The Pitbull Maddog also has rim guards found on many of the serious off-road tires on the market.


The PitBull Rocker is a Bias Ply tire and offroad the Bias Ply tires will typically out perform their radial counterpart in the area of toughness hands down. The PitBull Maddog is built for the extreme terrain with a 6 and 8 ply rating size dependent. These tires will perform best when aired way down to 10 psi or even lower when the tire will bulge and flex placing down a broad footprint for maximum traction. The rubber compound of these tires is harder than some other MT tires on the market and thus will last longer in harsh conditions. Although the Pitbull Maddog will require some moderate tire spin to clean itself and maintain momentum, it will outperform most of the "Mud Terrain" tires on the market in its element of mud. In snow this tire will also perform better than many popular Mud Terrain tires especially if aired down to the low digits where it will grind its way through deep snow. When aired down to the very low single digits, bead locks are recommended. Lateral traction is a plus with this tire's design as it offers plenty of side bite in off camber situations or traveling sideways along sloped terrain.
On the street these bias ply tires are quieter then you might expect from a bias. This is probably accomplished in part by a CAD designed tread pattern and their "All Bite No Bark(TM) noise resistant technology". Visually the Maddog is a head turner with a mean and aggressive styling, a look we definitely like. As of this review, available in sizes only in 35X1450-15, 35X1450-16, 35X1450-16.5, 35X1450-17 with a 38.5X1350 coming in Winter 2006 in a 15, 16, 16.5 and 17" rim size. Pros: Looks great, Good bite on rocks
Cons:

I put a set of these on my 69 bronco "beater". They're mud eaters. I've had these through some deep mud holes and they really throw the slop around. I found that if I air down to about 9 pounds and work the wheels back and forth when it gets thick and tough, they find traction. Probably the side lugs biting. Defintely better than the BFG MTs I had before these. I wished they had taller sizes but the 35's are good for my rig. On rocks, they seem fine. No issues and good bite. The street is not bad. I'm used to running mudders on the road so I guess its what your used to. Not bad though as far as noise level. You gotta air up before hitting the road. The bias plys will roll all over of not aired up. So far I like them.

Pros: They'rrrrrr Grrrrrrreat!
Cons:

I just got these tires at the 4x4 offroad jamboree and there are alot better than my 35" swampers I had. When I had the Swampers they got stuck often but would rip up the mud trying to get out but when i got the Pit Bulls I wasn't worried about geting stuck.

Pros: good on the street
Cons:

I just put these tires on my 07 F250 CC 4X4 diesel, with a 4.5" lift. the size is 35X14.50X20 on MT classic 2's.


i cant comment on how they do offroad yet, but on the street, its hard to beleave they're a bias ply mud tire. they used very little weight to balance them, and were very round. they ride very very smooth, but do put out some noise, it sounds like WW2 bombers flying beside you, but not very loud. and you can barely hear it with the windows up.


im going to give this tire a 9/10 for the reason that thery were only $271.50 each shipped to my door, and they drive very good for what they are. offroad review will follow soon.

Pros: Bite through anything.

These tires are amazing for anything you need to go through. Iv had them for about 4 months now and iv put them through hell and back and they just want more. I have a 99 Chevy Full-size (classic) with 39x14.5 Maddogs and these tires just cant get enough. I've been through hella mud, mud covering completely over the tires, completely sunk in mud and water and still have yet to get my truck stuck. Id love to see more of these tires around on the road or in a field. And the rubber I'v heard about these tires and how soft they are and such, is not nearly as bad as I thought. Not nearly as soft as super swampers, SS are like pencil erasers. I roasted these tires on dry pavement many times and they still live. Tires are flawless and the mud they throw is incredible, excellent clean-out tires. I air them down to about 15 psi for playing around in mud and always get out of any pit, ruts, or those little pot holes in the mud that you always hate getting caught up in ha. These tires do run extremely smooth especially with how big mine are, hella bomb! The absolute one thing i have to mention that i love about these tires, is the sound. my 39's make an extremely unique howl on the road. everyone knows the sound of my truck because well...they can hear my tires over any straight piped truck. but the sound is just amazing, it literally does sound like a jet is in take off and i love it. they are a real mans/boy toys tires for any terrain. I haven't used them in winter yet, but I'm sure they will do the job Wink. I highly recommend this tire for daily driving, light off roading, or even just for looks with how unique the tred is. But mainly I'd have recommend them for extreme off road mudding/ditches/rocks or all mixed together in water! love them.

Pros: Excellant tire
Cons:

I but a set of 38.5 maddog tires on my 05 superduty with a 10' lift and I was extremely shocked about how good the truck rode and handled. I've had superswamper irocks on there before and they were junk and goodyear mtr and they were worse. I highly recomend these tires to any one who drives there truck as mush on the street as they do in the trails.
