Description: Pine Creek ORV Trails - Wayne National Forest

Pine Creek ORV Trails
The Pine Creek area of the Wayne National Forest provides some excellent opportunities for riding off-road vehicles (ORVs). This trail system provides approximately 17 miles of trails for off-road vehicle, hiking, and mountain bike use. Two other trail systems for off-road vehicles are provided on the Wayne NF. One trail system, Hanging Rock, is nearby. The other area, Monday Creek is north of Nelsonville, Ohio.

Regulations:
The following regulations are enforced on the Wayne National Forest:

Current license, and Ohio all-purpose vehicle (APV) registration/license required.
Designated ORV trails are for vehicles 50 inches or less in width.
Motorized vehicles are allowed only on designated trails and roads (marked with orange diamonds).
Trails are open for use from April 15th through December 15th each year. Seasonal trail closures are in place to prevent resource damage and limit maintenance costs.
Trail Permits are required for all riders 16 years of age or older.
Prohibit operating any vehicle including ORVs:
In an unsafe manner.
Under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In a manner which damages or unreasonably disturbs soil, wildlife, or vegetation.
Without an operable braking system.
From one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise unless equipped with working headlights and taillights.
With internal or external combustion engines not equipped with a properly installed spark arrester or exhaust system.
In violation of posted or established limits on speed, weight, or width.

Trail Markers

Designated trails are marked with orange diamonds. Brown carsonite posts show symbols for the trail area and other information. Below the trail area is the difficulty rating and the direction referred to by the marker.

Directions to Trailheads:

Telegraph Trailhead - 23 miles north of Ironton on Highway 93. Turn left on County Road 193 for 1/8 mile to the parking area.

Lyra Trailhead - From Wheelersburg, take County road 2 to Township Road 307.

Wolcott Trailhead - From Ironton, go north on State Route 93. Turn on Highway 522 West; go 3.5 miles to County Road 9, then 3 miles to the trailhead.

Note: Within these ORV areas, the Wayne National Forest Plan provides for an emphasis on ORV use, while also providing timber products, maintaining wildlife habitat diversity, and providing other dispersed recreational opportunities.

Camping

Camping is allowed at trailheads however the primary purpose of the trailheads is for parking. Be considerate of others and do not block access to roads, trails, or trailheads. Information on private campgrounds in the area can be obtained from the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, 740-377-4550.

Remember, if you camp at the trailheads, you can build a campfire as long as you have a 10 foot clearance around it and put a ring around it with rocks. No bon fires are allowed. Fires must be extinguished before leaving camp. No standing or green trees may be cut. Check the bulletin boards to ensure no fire bans are in effect.

Do not bring firewood into Forest picnic areas or campgrounds! Firewood could transport emerald ash borer. Only local firewood should be used.
