The remains of an old strip mine dump
truck. This truck was parked in what used to be
the old entrance road down into Byrnesville.
Byrnesville was a small village just south of
Centralia that is now extinct because of the Centralia
fire.

The pictures above and below are
from about 1/2 mile east of the center of Centralia
where mine drainage water comes out of the side of the
hill through a large pipe. It then flows down a
small stream (below) and under W. Centre St.
|

Below are pictures from a 2001
visit. From a distance a strong stream of smoke
was rising from the barren hillside where the fire
currently burns below. Upon further
investigation, it seems that the heat had ignited dead
wood lying on the hillside.
