Reviewing Lancaster Pennsylvania's Best

Red Caboose Motel Review
Strasburg Pennsylvania
Lancaster Amish Country

Located on Paradise Lane in Strasburg, PA, the Red Caboose Motel is a very unique motel indeed.  In an area of Strasburg where old trains and railroad related memorabilia are everywhere, the Red Caboose Motel gives you the opportunity to stay overnight and sleep in a genuine caboose in the middle of Amish farm country.  The grounds of the Red Caboose Motel is only a few minutes and within sight and walking distance of the Strasburg Railroad train station.  The hourly train rides of the Strasburg Railroad will travel right past the front of the Red Caboose Motel property giving you the chance to watch a historical steam locomotive pulling fully restored passenger cars past on its way toward Paradise PA, then back again to the station later.

The Red Caboose Motel also has an authentic rail dining car where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with a view (pictured to the right, dining car on the left of the main building).  This dining car looks much as it did years ago when it was in service and the Pennsylvania Dutch food is great.  Don't be alarmed if you feel the dining car move as though it were going down the rails.  They have cleverly rigged a push button device that simulates the rail car is moving down the tracks!

The Red Caboose Motel has a great gift shop, most of which is a large train display where the kids, young and old, can watch all sorts of scale model trains chug around the tracks.  The gift shop also has many displays made from authentic train parts including walls that were once part of the exteriors of box cars.

Walk around the grounds of The Red Caboose Motel and discover farm animals, a children's playground, a silo converted to a lookout tower as well as many more surprises.  You'll definitely want to walk around and look at all the different styles and paint schemes of the cabooses themselves.  Each caboose has it's own characteristic style and color schemes of specific railroad lines around the country.

Directly behind the grounds of The Red Caboose Motel, is the National Toy Train Museum.  After spending the night in a caboose walk over and enjoy the interactive displays where you and the kids can push button to make the trains move and landscape come alive.

Later, you can enjoy all that there is to do within a 10 minute drive!

Walking around the grounds you'll find a working barn, home to many animals and a playground for the children. The Silo is converted to a lookout tower where you can get a great view of the surrounding area.

Say Hello to the horses and feed the other farm animals!
