I have a 1981 Jeep CJ-7 that I am currently swapping out the 151 GM with a 230 Chevy straight 6. Amazingly enough I stumbled across this engine on eBay for 28.00 and it was located about 30 miles to pick up. The engine runs fine and was taken care of. I started on the swap last week. Pulled the old GM 151 out and kept the flywheel housing because it bolts right up to the 230. The tranny fit snug against the original bellhousing since it was the orginial SR-4 that came with the Jeep. Now the only problem that I came across so far is that the engine is about 3 inches too long for the radiator to fit. I am in the process of moving the transfer case back about 3 inches and I hope the driveshaft will collapse to that length, but it looks like it will. So far this conversion is probably going to cost me under 100.00 Not bad for a budget eh? I also found an original 1964 chrome valve cover for 10.00 on ebay. I am using the motor mounts from the chevy impala, but I had to separate the mounts from the original mount blocks and attach them to the Jeep mount blocks... looks like they will work. Anyone ever did a 230 straight 6 swap? email westleykarcher@yahoo.com if you have any helpful hints.
